A Visit to the Theatre

Good morning! I did end up going out last night after all. I sat down with the girl at reception and we searched the internet for shows that are playing. She was really helpful, chatting to me and drawing on my little map so I could find the theatre, and telling me that if I got there and no one spoke English I could ring them and they could translate for me.

Anyway, I went and saw Spring Awakening at the English Theatre. Yep, I came all the way here to go to an English theatre :P It was the only musical that we could find, and I thought why not? I like the music in the show and I have nothing against seeing in at least once. Surprisingly, I was actually really impressed. It's been a very long time since I have seen a production in which the energy wasn't forced. These actors had energy, but they controlled it and used it comfortably. It was just so much more natural, as was the choreography, and the whole show was heavily choreographed. The entire set was a chalkboard, every surface including the floor and furniture was used and drawn on. By the end of the show there was chalk dust everywhere, the front few rows must have been covered in it :P

By the interval I was almost falling asleep in my chair, it was very tragic. I was soooo tired! It's just as well I enjoyed the show so much, or I possibly would have actually fallen asleep. The theatre was right smack bang in the middle of Frankfurt's red light district. Very seedy :P Walking back to the train station at 10:30pm was interesting. Also, I seem to have developed a nasty habit of catching the right train going in the wrong direction. I added a good fifteen minutes to my journey last night, which was really annoying because I was so tired! Eventually I got back to the hostel, and there was a party in the lobby or something. I might stay in tonight and spend some time down here chatting to people.

Bed was niiiiiice. My roomie was already asleep so I got changed in the dark and practically fell into bed. Then this morning I randomly woke up at 6am. It stays dark so late here that I couldn't tell what the time was. Then my roomie got up and spent an hour in the bathroom, and I just dozed. He left just before 7am, and I must have fallen asleep again because I woke up feeling all groggy at 9am. Now I'm eating the tiniest slices of bread I have ever seen, and drinking juice from a teeny weeny glass for breakfast. The coffee was seriously crap, I am disappoint :(

Ohmygoodness I am so sore! My shoulders are aching like woah, probably form dragging my STUPID suitcases all over the place. My arms are so in funny places too, probably for the same reason. My legs are all hurty too, probably from walking all over the place.

Today I think I'm going to go back to Hauptwache and do some more shopping and some touristy things like museums, then tomorrow it's off to Stuttgart! I'll try and remember to take some photos of stuff today, bringing my camera with me might help :P

  1. Haha I can't believe you saw a musical based on a German play, IN Germany, in English. That is brilliant :P
